How to Press DTF Transfers

Professional Results Made Simple — by Tuxedo Print

Whether you’re pressing shirts for your brand or creating custom designs for clients, DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers give you the flexibility and quality you need. At Tuxedo Print, our transfers are built for consistency — just follow these simple steps to achieve perfect results every time.

Step 1: Prepare Your Garment

Start with a clean, dry garment. Make sure the surface is flat and free of lint or moisture.
If the fabric has heavy wrinkles or feels damp, a quick 2-second pre-press can help remove any steam or creases — but it’s not mandatory for every job.

Step 2: Position Your Transfer

Lay your design film-side down on the garment in your desired location.
Take your time to align it straight and centered. You can use heat-resistant tape if you’re pressing hats or curved surfaces to keep the film from shifting.

Step 3: Press Settings

Every heat press is slightly different, but here’s a proven starting point for Tuxedo Print DTF Transfers:

  • 🔥 Temperature: 305–315°F (150–160°C)

  • ⏱️ Time: 12–15 seconds

  • 💪 Pressure: Medium to Firm

Close your press evenly to ensure full contact across the entire design.

Step 4: Peel & Re-Press

After pressing, let the film cool for about 5–10 seconds — then peel slowly and confidently from one corner.
Once the film is removed, place a piece of parchment or a Teflon sheet over the design and press again for 8–10 seconds.
This “final press” locks in the colors, smooths the texture, and gives your print a softer feel.

Step 5: Care Instructions

To keep your prints looking fresh:

  • Wait 24 hours before washing.

  • Wash inside out with cold water.

  • Avoid bleach or fabric softeners.

  • Tumble dry low or hang dry.

  • Never iron directly over the design.

Follow these and your DTF prints will stay bright, flexible, and durable for dozens of washes.
